Why the Marae Is Special to the Community.
A special place to the community is the marae. The marae is the heart of the people.
It is a place where you can celebrate birthdays, reunions, unveilings, weddings and many other events.
It is a place where you can learn and share unique Maori culture and heritage.
The marae is special to the community because you can connect to others and discover your links in whakapapa.
Therefore a marae is special to the community because it is a place that holds celebrations, knowledge and whakapapa.
Marae are special to the community because it holds celebrations such as birthdays, weddings, unveilings, family reunions, tangihanga and many more events.
It is a place where whanau can stand proud for every emotion.
Not only do they spread joy and happiness but they cry and mourn their loved ones, so that they can have the support of all those around them.
Back in the days Maori could not afford school so they will go to the marae and learn there.
They would learn things such as fishing, hunting, speaking te reo and learn about their tupuna.
Till this day, some still learn at the marae. Usually there would be carvings on the marae which would tell you your tupuna or where you come from. Marae holds cultural knowledge of the local tribe inside it's houses and environment in which is located, river, the land and mountains to teach pride land involves and means.
In Maori culture, people have to learn about our whakapapa, where people are from and who their tupuna is. The carvings on the marae is most likely to tell us where you are from like your Mountain, river and iwi. Every carving has different patterns to represent different people. It is special to the community because you can make connections and discover many many links to everyone's whakapapa.
To sum it all up, marae are special to the community because its households different kinds of celebrations, whether it brings joy or sadness. It is also a place where you can get educated and learn what it is like to be a Maori person in this country. Marae are a place where you can connect to others and discover your links in whakapapa. As a result, it is a place to discover your cultural heritage.
