Writing Algorithms

We are learning about computational thinking. We have learnt how to write an algorithm to get a pirate to the treasure chest. Then we made our own coding program and challenged a friend to solve it. I asked my friend to try and help the prince to get to the princes without bumping into the guard. In order to be successful we had to remember to read how many blocks the person or avatar had to move to get to its place. We call this decomposition. That means we have to break down our instructions into small manageable steps. ðŸ˜ƒðŸ˜†

Variety of ways to write this decimal

I chose to represent the number 5.23 in a variety of ways.  Did you know that there are 52 tenths and 3 hundredths in this number.  You can also say that there are 5 ones + 2 tenths + 3 hundredths....that's the same as 5 + 2/10 + 3/100.  It sometimes gets confusing but once you get it, its not really. We have been learning about the decimal place value system.  We have been learning about how many tenths, hundredths and wholes are in any given number.  We were also challenged to share the different ways in which we can show our learning.
I hope this helps improve your understanding of the decimal place value system like it did me.
Blog you later.
